'Bourne 5' News: Matt Damon Reveals Details About The Film And Jason Bourne
The fifth installment of the "Bourne" franchise will be heading to theaters on July 29 this year and the film is said to be halfway done in production, according to a report in Entertainment Weekly. Matt Damon, who will be reprising his role as Jason Bourne, shared some plot details about the film in an EW interview.
Damon revealed in the interview that the upcoming film will be picking up 12 years after the events of 2004, as shown in "The Bourne Ultimatum." In the franchise story line, Bourne chose to disappear or go off the grid in 2004. Damon said, "What's happened in those intervening years gives you a story."
In the same interview, he also hinted at some action scenes where his character will be involved in, which includes "a nighttime riot scene" in Athens as well as an epic car chase along the Vegas strip towards the end of the movie.
In another Entertainment Weekly report, Damon also shared what kind of world Bourne will see himself in the upcoming film. He mentioned that it is a world that has experienced "financial collapse" and "the great recession." He also cited that issues of civil liberties and cyberwarfare are also present in the movie.
Once again, Bourne is searching for answers about himself and his past and he is doing so in a modern world that is fraught with many dangers and problems. Damon reveals that his character is "in a dark and tortured place" in the movie.
Damon is also a producer of the movie and he is working with director Paul Greengrass, the same director who helmed the other Bourne films where Damon played the lead character. Julia Stiles returns as Nicky Parsons, a character that has helped Bourne in his quest. "Ex-Machina's" Alicia Vikander also joins the cast as a cyberspecialist, as well as Tommy Lee Jones, as an old-school CIA agent. French actor Vincent Cassel is also confirmed for the sequel.
