‘Christian nationalism’ or ‘made-up controversy’? 7 Reactions to Trump signing Bibles
Hershael York
Hershael York, dean of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary School of Theology in Louisville, Kentucky, told the Associated Press that he had no problem with the Bibles being signed.
“Though we don’t have a national faith, there is faith in our nation, and so it’s not at all surprising that people would have politicians sign their Bibles,” stated York. “Those Bibles are meaningful to them and apparently these politicians are, too.”
York added that he has occasionally been asked to sign Bibles after a sermon and does so even though he does not feel comfortable with the request.
“If it’s meaningful to them to have signatures in their Bible, I’m willing to do that,” he said.
