Cleveland Cavaliers Trade News 2015: So far satisfied with Tristan Thompson re-signing
The Cleveland Cavaliers are so far pleased with their decision to re-sign big man Tristan Thompson.
In late October, the 24-year old power forward/center agreed to sign a five-year deal with the Cleveland team, worth $82 milion. According to a previous report by ESPN.com, the finalization of the deal makes Thompson the sixth highest-paid power forward in the NBA today.
Currently, the Cavaliers hold a record of 7-1, winning seven straight games. Two of those games were won at home. They most recently defeated the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night, with a score of 118-114. The team's victory was mainly anchored by LeBron James' late-game heroics.
According to report by the Deseret News, "King James" dropped in a total of 31 points, 17 of those points being poured on in the fourth period. For his part, Thompson has so far proven that his new deal was worth every cent.
In another report by Bleacher Report, he has so far averaged 7.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.0 blocks through five games. He also tallied in 60.7 per cent shooting from the field in less than 25 minutes of action. According to Cavaliers head coach David Blatt, Thompson's significance in the team goes beyond the numbers, adding that it is the intangibles that matter more.
"The thing about Tristan is that he doesn't need a whole lot to be involved and successful in the game," Blatt said. "He's going to do the things that he does regardless of the play call or what the coach is doing."
"He's going to rebound, be active, get his hand on the ball, deflect the ball, run to the rim and finish plays, screen well and move and facilitate through his movement," he added.
But for Thompson, success will not be achieved without the help of his teammates.
"All the bigs, we've all got different relationships with each other," Thompson said. That's key, especially for us to keep moving forward and grow something special."
