'Jane the Virgin' Season 3 Updates, Spoilers and Previews: Is Michael Cordero Alive?

Beloved series "Jane the Virgin" Season 2 left several fans in frustration with its finale's cliffhanger: Jane's husband cum detective, Michael Cordero (played by Brett Dier), is presumably shot dead--by no less than his archrival, drug dealer Sin Rostro, disguised as his partner Susanna Barnett.

Still alive?

Rumors floated around, however, that Jane's love interest may still be alive. After all, killing the love of Jane's life shortly after her wedding is just cruel--but then again, the series' premise is a satire of Latin telenovelas, which is fueled by exactly this sort of high-flown drama.

In an interview with Gold Derby, Dier himself admits he was disappointed about his character getting shot in the show, as he feels that Michael (his character)and himself are "two different people." He added that he didn't know about the twist until the series' creator, Jennie Urman, told him a day before the table read.

Cast updates

There's hope, however--Jane the Virgin's cast and crew have been keeping their viewers updated with several images on Instagram and Twitter, with the presumed-dead Michael Cordero featured prominently in every photo.

In a photo posted by the series' writers, Dier was seen sitting with his co-stars Justin Baldoni, Yael Grobglas, Jaime Camil and Ivonne Col.

"First table read of Season 3! All smiles on a Monday," the photo said.

Meanwhile, even if Cordero's survival chances are very slim, should he pull through, there will be stark differences for his character for then on, Dier said in an email to Bustle.

What will happen after accident?

He mulls that Michael could either be more appreciative of his life, or, following the premise of a satirical telenovela, he could then suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder from the accident.

Of course, most fans would rather have Michael on the show in any which way than none at all, having been the series favorite to end up with Jane over the handsome doctor Raphael Solano, whose sperm Jane was accidentally (deliberately, in fact) inseminated with.

Find out about Michael's fate on the series premiere this September.
