'Justice League' Cast News: Amber Heard To Play Mera, Aquaman's Wife; Female Co-Stars React

"The Danish Girl" actress Amber Heard is set to join the ever-expanding DC Cinematic Universe as Mera, Queen of Atlantis and better half of fellow DC Comics superhero Aquaman.

Heard, who rose to fame after appearing in "Pineapple Express" (2008) and "The Rum Diary" (2011), has confirmed that she will play the role of Mera in the upcoming DC superhero team-up film tentatively titled "Justice League Part One," Entertainment Tonight has learned. She will then join the cast of the stand-alone Aquaman film in 2018. "Game of Thrones" alum Jason Momoa will play the role of Aquaman.

In a recent interview with ET, the actress spoke about her undersea costume. "It's interesting," she said. "It's like, half suit of armor, half scales."

"We're in the process of building it now, so it's coming along," she added.

Meanwhile, the news of Heard's casting in the Justice League film was received with joy by the other women in the DC Cinematic Universe. While promoting "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which drops today, Gal Gadot told ET, "I love working with women."

"I'm used to working with men most of the time and working with women is just so refreshing," the actress said. "I'm so happy about that, and I'm happy that Amber is going to be our new addition."

Gadot makes her big screen debut as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in "Batman v Superman." She will then star in the Wonder Woman stand-alone film in 2017.

Amy Adams, who reprises her "Man of Steel" (2013) role as Lois Lane in "Batman v Superman," also reacted to the news of Heard's casting, telling ET: "I've met her before, and she's a great woman. I think that she and Gal and I are going to have a blast, if we get to."

The first Justice League film is scheduled to be released in 2017.
