Motorola Moto X 2016 News: Leaked Image Showed All Metal Case And Large Rear Camera

Based on a recent image leak via a Chinese site cnBeta, Motorola seems to be working on its next flagship smartphone, the Motorola Moto X 2016. If the report is true and the image is indeed a prototype of the device, the new smartphone may come with an all metal case and a huge rear camera, according to a report in TechRadar.

The image only showed the back portion of the device and it revealed that the phone comes with a full metal body which is said to be different from the previous designs of the Moto X. Aside from metal, the device is also shown with some portions made of glass. According to the TechRadar report, this may only be a "naked" version of the device, as Motorola is known for its emphasis on customization with the online Moto Maker feature which allows consumers to order and design their own phone.

Aside from the metal body, the image also shows a huge rear camera on the device, which, unlike the previous models of Moto X, is a camera that seems to jut out of the back of the device rather than recessed.

Another curious revelation of the image is the location of the speakers for the device. Unlike previous models, the device shown has speaker grills at the back. Front-facing speakers have always been preferred so that holding the phone will not hinder the sound coming out of the phone.

According to a Tech Times report, Motorola has long been known for "cutting edge" technology and design in the mobile industry back in the early 2000s. When it comes to the smartphone industry, however, the company has not fared well. It was not until Google bought the company in 2012 that it began to make a name for itself with Moto X. The Moto X was the first phone to have advanced voice recognition, custom design via the Moto Maker as well as contextual awareness.

When it was purchased by Lenovo in 2014, it continued with the Moto X series as its flagship.
