Teachers facing backlash, termination for mocking Charlie Kirk's murder

Libs of TikTok shared a screenshot of a Facebook post made by Eric Curtiss, a teacher at Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools in Michigan, where he posted a quote from Kirk insisting “I think it’s worth it, to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our God-given rights.” Curtiss also shared a quote from Kirk, where the late activist stated “I think empathy is a made up New Age term that does a lot of damage.”
“Karma is a b****,” Curtiss wrote. “Thoughts and prayers, a**hole.”
In a statement posted to Facebook Thursday, Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools Superintendent Lindsey Newton acknowledged that she was aware of “a social media post” by a teacher in the district that has “undeniably caused concerns in our community.” Stressing that “the teacher’s comments do not reflect the sentiment of the school district,” Newton announced “this morning the staff member was placed on administrative leave as the district conducts a thorough investigation.”
