'The Office' Series Finale: Recap, Reactions (Spoiler Alert)

The series finale of "The Office" took place on Thursday night after nine seasons, and viewers are abuzz with reactions.

"The Office" was based on the taping of a fake PBS documentary. Cameras followed the lives of fictional employees at Dunder Mifflin, a paper company in Scranton, Penn., over the course of eight seasons.

NBC's hit show includes stars such as Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Ed Helms, and Jenna Fischer, among many others.

Wednesday's finale was complete with both humorous and emotional moments as viewers bid farewell to the beloved characters, including Jim, Pam, Dwight and Andy.

"At first I couldn't believe they wanted to make a documentary," said Pam during the finale. "But then, there's a lot of beauty in ordinary things, isn't that kinda the point?"

"Everything I have, I owe to this job," said Jim. "This stupid wonderful boring amazing job."

Adding to the buzz online, the finale included a highly anticipated cameo appearance by Steve Carell's character, Michael Scott. Carell left the beloved comedy series after seven seasons in 2011.

The finale saw Scott serve as the best man during the wedding scene between Dwight and Angela.

"I can't believe you came," Dwight said during the episode, to which Scott replied, "That's what she said."

Furthermore, former "The Office" stars Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak also returned for the finale.

As #TheOffice" became a trending topic on Twitter, many viewers have expressed grief over the end of the series, but users are mostly satisfied with the conclusion.

"They could not have ended the Office anymore perfectly," wrote Old Gray.

Chase posted, "Even though the show wasn't as good after Michael left, that finale of The Office was really great & touching. I'll forever love that show."

"I'm still thinking about the finale," Samuel posted. "I can't come to terms that The Office is actually over! It's starting to hit me."

Leigh wrote, "When will I stop being sad about The Office ending?"
