Jeanine Pirro appointed as interim US attorney for DC
Trump named Fox News host Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., the top prosecutor job in the nation’s capital.
Before joining Fox News in 2006, Pirro was the assistant district attorney and district attorney in Westchester County, New York, and became the first woman to serve as a judge in that county.
Pirro’s appointment came days after Ed Martin, Trump’s first pick for the role, was moved to serve as the director of the Weaponization Working Group, associate deputy attorney general, and pardon attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice.
Martin’s appointment was opposed by Republicans on Capitol Hill such as Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., who cited concerns about Martin regarding his opinions on the 2020 presidential election and the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
"He wasn't getting the support from people that I thought," Trump said of Martin last week. "You know, he's done a very good job. Crime is down 25 percent in D.C. during this period of time. … I can only lift that little phone so many times of the day. But we have somebody else."
