'Underworld 5' Cast News, Release Date: Kate Beckinsale Is Now Set to Reprise Her Role in Action-Horror Franchise

Fans of the hit action-horror movie series "Underworld" can now rejoice as a recent casting report confirmed that the franchise's main star, Kate Beckinsale, will be returning to reprise her role as Selene in a yet to be titled sequel.

A report from The Hollywood Reporter said that the 41-year-old actress "has signed on to reprise her vampire character Selene, in the fifth installment in the franchise from Lakeshore Entertainment and Screen Gems."

Theo James, who previously told the press that he won't be coming back for Underworld 5, will now also join Beckinsale to play his character, David, who was introduced in the 2012 installment, "Underworld: Awakening."

THR also said that the upcoming big screen offering will be helmed by Anna Foerster. She will be the first female director for the series. Her previous credits as director of photography include movies such as "The Day After Tomorrow" and "White House Down." Foerster also directed several episodes for Starz's supernatural TV drama series "Outlander."

Writing the script is Cory Goodman who, according to the publication, has kept the details on the sequel under wraps. However, the site revealed that the new title will "focus on a new and younger generation of vampires and werewolves who are locked in a seeminly never-ending battle between supernatural races."

The report went on to say that production for the movie will begin this October in Prague.

Screen Rant meanwhile shared their take on the story saying that with the given production date, it would be more likely that the finished product will arrive to the cinemas "late summer in 2016."

It would also be possible, given the "extensive post-production and VFX work" requirements entailed on the project, that it will have a January 2017 release date.
