'Vikings' Season 3 Finale News, Spoilers: Ragnar Betrays the Future of the Vikings

Fans of the hit historical TV drama series "Vikings" Season 3 was quite baffled on the degree of grief that Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) has felt for the death of Athelstan (George Blagden).

The extent of the sadness he felt for the loss of his Christian friend went on to affect his decisions. Last episode titled "Breaking Point" goes to show how much Ragnar can do for Athelstan.

After he decides to meet up with the royal French envoy, he asked them to baptize him in the waters so that he could once again be with Athelstan in the Christian's heaven.

Rollo (Clive Standen), Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and the rest of the Norse warriors arrived just in time to witness the ritual. The group is utterly in shock with what their Viking leader has done.

"From Ragnar's point of view ... he's being baptized to make sure when he dies he sees Athelstan again," series writer Michael Hirst previously told Zap2it.

"For the others, it's very shocking. Although they have the precedent of Rollo being baptized in an earlier season and it not making any difference. Ragnar is a deeper, more mysterious character to them, so they're not sure entirely how to take it."

In a promo clip for tonight's finale episode, Floki was heard saying in a voice-over that "he [Ragnar] has betrayed our future." Could this mean that the Northmen has already lost their cause against the Christians now that their leader succumbed to their faith? What will the rest of the Vikings do about the invasion?

A lot of exciting developments and perhaps, plot twists are to be expected when the final episode of the 3rd season of "Vikings" airs this Thursday, April 23 at 10 p.m. on The History Channel.
