'AHS: Cult' Drops Mass Shooting Scene, FX Confirms
FX confirmed that a mass shooting scene filmed for this week's episode of "American Horror Story: Cult" was edited out following the Las Vegas shooting.
On Monday, "AHS" co-creator Ryan Murphy decided to drop a mass shooting scene that should have appeared at the beginning and end of this week's episode.
"This opening, which was filmed two months ago and which portrays an occurrence of gun violence that has sadly become all too common in our country, contains a sequence that some viewers might find traumatic," FX said in a statement.
The edited version of the episode aired on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 10 p.m. ET on FX. Fans, however, can find the unedited version on the VOD platform their cable, satellite, or telco provider. FX's non-linear platforms, FXNOW and FX+, will also broadcast the uncut version.
The decision to drop the mass shooting scene was made out of respect for those grieving the loss of 58 innocent individuals who died on the first of Oct. in Las Vegas. It was made out of respect for the 22,000 concert-goers who had to go through the horrific experience.
The gunman, Stephen Paddock, a retired accountant, open fired at the crowd from his suite on the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay. The motive behind the killing spree has yet to be established.
Over 500 individuals are still recovering from their injuries. While some were shot, others sustained injuries from trying to flee the scene.
In the course of the investigations, authorities have discovered the elaborate plan that Paddock has set up, which included monitoring equipment such as cameras. More recent findings suggest that he did not intend to die that day, that Paddock had an escape plan, which involved explosives.
The tragedy is dubbed the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
