'Aquaman' Spoilers: Movie to Feature Arthur Curry Finally Embracing His Destiny as an Atlantean King and Superhero
While many people are already impressed on how Jason Momoa breathes life into his Arthur Curry/Aquaman character in next month's "Justice League" as seen on the trailers, the actor has revealed that he will only become a full-fledged superhero and Atlantean king in the standalone "Aquaman" movie.
The numerous trailers for "Justice League" have left many in awe with Aquaman as the character displays just how powerful he can be whether he is on land or underwater. However, in a recent interview, Momoa revealed that his character in "Justice League" still has not fully embraced his destiny as a superhero and an Atlantean King as these would only happen in his standalone "Aquaman" movie slated for a 2018 release.
"He's not even Aquaman yet. He's not the King of the Seven Seas. We don't really get there until my solo movie, at the end. Really, it's a huge growth for me. It's a gigantic arc for Arthur Curry. It may be tough for a lot of fans to watch what they're gonna see, how I portray him. But you gotta wait until we get to the solo movie to really know. Because he's not king yet. He doesn't believe in himself, he doesn't know what to do with the powers he has," Momoa said in a recent interview.
While "Aquaman" executive producer Charles Roven already revealed to Cinema Blend earlier this year that the events in "Aquaman" will transpire after "Justice League," Momoa's interview has only bolstered the speculations that his upcoming standalone live-action feature may be based on the direct-to-DVD animated movie "Justice League: Throne of Atlantis," which was released in 2015. After all, the said animated movie features Arthur Curry embracing his destiny as an Atlantean king and a superhero with the help of the Justice League.
Apart from possibly taking inspiration from "Justice League: Throne of Atlantis," it is also speculated that "Aquaman's" connection to "Justice League" may also have something to do with the Mother Boxes. As the superpowerful ancient computers are the bone of contention between the Justice League and Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds) in the "Justice League" movie, and it is said that one of the Mother Boxes is in the possession of the Atlanteans, it is not really difficult to establish a connection between "Justice League" and "Aquaman."
"Justice League" hits the theaters this Nov.17 while "Aquaman" is slated for a December 2018 release.
