Gal Gadot News: Actress Acknowledges Mistake in Depiction of Wonder Woman in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'
Gal Gadot admits that the depiction of her Diana/Wonder Woman character in last year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was wrong.
While promoting next month's "Justice League" recently, Gadot said that she had been aware of the issues against her Wonder Woman character in last year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which served as her debut vehicle in the DCEU. On the whole, the movie was shredded by critics for being too dark and serious and having a disjointed storyline.
However, avid Wonder Woman fans could not help but point out that there was something wrong about how the superheroine was depicted in the story, specifically the part wherein the character said towards the end of the movie that she had stopped caring about mankind.
According to Gadot, it was only when they started filming the solo "Wonder Woman" movie when it became clear who Diana really is. Upon understanding the core of the character, it was established that there is no way for the Amazonian Warrior Princess to give up on mankind, regardless of her disappointment in them. Hence, that erroneous depiction of Wonder Woman in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was eventually corrected in her solo eponymous movie.
"The reason why she left the island was because she wanted to make their lives better and safer—they are her calling. So, I'm giving you a very honest answer, but it was—sometimes in a creative process, you establish something that is not necessarily the right decision, but then you can always correct it and change it. So Wonder Woman will always be there, as far as she's concerned, for mankind," Gadot explained.
True enough, in the solo "Wonder Woman" movie released this year, despite Diana's realization that, apart from Ares, mankind is also to blame for wars, she still vowed at the end of the movie to embrace her destiny of being a superhero, declaring that fighting for what is right will be her mission now and forever.
Meanwhile, Gadot reprises her Wonder Woman role in "Justice League," which is slated to hit the theaters this Nov. 17.
