'Halt and Catch Fire' Season 3 Episode 3 'Flipping the Switch' Updates: Gender Politics Affect Donna and Cameron

How will Cameron and Donna achieve their goals if Gender Politics become a hindrance?

It has been a notion that men will always dominate the workplace.

However, "Halt and Catch Fire" changed the rules of the game.

With Cameron Howe (Mackenzie Davis) and Donna Clark (Kerry Blishe) coming in as startup leaders in the series, it brought new hopes to avid women fans who believe they have the abilities to step up and, slowly but surely, rule the world.

Women are often judged for devoting so much time in front of the mirror than doing productive tasks before finally taking off for work.

Skirts Versus Pants

In the latest episode of "Halt and Catch Fire", Donna and Cameron found out that Gender Politics could be the key factor to penetrate Silicon Valley and build the Mutiny empire.

Most often than not, men are deceived by lipstick and makeup choices. There are instances where men degrade a woman's value in the workplace according to the measurement of her skirt or the kind of clothes she chooses to wear.

In Season 3 Episode 2, Cameron and Donna found their proposals rejected. Executives gave comments like their projects lacked interesting ideas and it didn't kick some a*s. They eventually learned that this might have something to do with gender politics in the workplace.

Cameron and Donna took the pitching to a whole new level through dinner meetings. However, their business went from serious to unpleasant as men took things in a different way.

The women wanted to have a serious talk about Mutiny, but Timothy Bondham (Robert Treveiler) and Joe MacMillan (Lee Pace) read it the wrong way. The men thought that they were only out to 'play'.

Because of this, Cameron and Donna chose to shift their wardrobes - from skirt suit to pants, and from fit to almost oversized menswear. By doing so, the men could no longer have the wrong ideas as these outfits screamed 'work' and in no way near 'party'.

Other than the discrimination and generalization against women, Cameron and Donna also thought of another possible reason why their proposals were diving into trash bins. It might be because of their investors' competitor, Diane Gould (Annabeth Gish), whose daughter also got involved in a catfight at school with Donna's daughter.

To Push Through or To Hold On

Season 3 Episode 3, titled 'Flipping the Switch', has become more complex as it dwells on each character's contribution to creative, financial, emotional and intellectual conflicts. Viewers will also see how the story develops as Cameron and Gordon Clark face a new dilemma: To push through or to blend in. Since the cost of the new interface invented for Mutiny Empire is relatively higher than the ones available in the market, it poses a threat to the company's financial costs. They may choose to ride along with software trends to ensure that their head count is intact.

"Halt and Catch Fire" runs every Tuesday at 9PM on AMC.
