Kim Jong-un Visits Truck Factory, Urges North Korea to Modernize Automotive Industry

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un continued his visits to different factories, and this time around, his stop was in a facility that manufactures large-scale trucks.

According to Korea Herald report, the 33-year-old dictator inspected the March 16 Factory in Pyongyang. The factory was established on March 1977, and Kim was all praises in regard to the factory's rich history. The Korean Central News Agency, the country's state media, said that Kim hailed the factory as it shows "the wise guidance and meticulous care" of his predecessors, namely, Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il.

Furthermore, Kim also commended the factory workers for their efforts in contributing to "the prosperity of the country." In addition, he also called for the modernization of the country's automotive industry while identifying the March 16 Factory as the "mother base."

He also said that North Korea has the "solid materials and technical foundations" in terms of vehicle production via the January 18 General Machine Factory. The said factory builds high-performance engines, the report added.

In addition, DailyMail reported that Kim displayed his immunity to health and safety rules because of his semi-divine status. In one of the official photos of his factory visit, Kim is seen holding a cigarette while chatting beside an old and rusty conveyor belt.

Last month, ABC News reported that Kim visited the Pyongyang Cosmetics Factory. Surprisingly, Kim took with him his wife, Ri Sol-ju, and his sister, Kim Yo-jong.

BBC noted that Kim's visit to the cosmetics factory was all part of his propaganda, aimed at showing North Korea's elite and middle class that his leadership is legitimate. Cosmetics, especially the high-end types, have been scarce in the country since a good number of countries have stopped importing luxury goods.

This has led to North Korea to develop its own local cosmetics to compensate for the loss and meet the demand in the country.
