Massachusetts News: Two Pit Bulls Maul 7-Year-Old Boy to Death
An unidentified 7-year-old boy in Massachusetts was mauled to death by two pit bulls after entering an enclosed area last weekend.
Reports claim that the Middlesex district attorney's office has revealed that, based on its preliminary investigations, the boy was attacked at around 6 in the evening in Lowell last Saturday, Oct. 21, after he broke into a fenced area where the dogs were kept. Reportedly, the boy was already dead when officers responding to the situation arrived.
According to one witness, David Swiniarski, he and his roommate ran to the site of the incident after hearing screams down the block. There, Swiniarski found himself witnessing the horrifying sight, where the boy was being dragged by the pit bulls, one by his neck and the other by his legs.
"He was already gone as soon as we got there," Swiniarski told the Boston Globe.
Two other witnesses, Roger Rodriguez and his girlfriend Jean Remon, recalled that they saw the boy and other kids playing outside when they left for dinner. However, when they returned at around 6:15 in the evening, they already saw the boy covered in white sheets.
According to Remon, the unnamed girlfriend of the dogs' owner was in tears because of the unfortunate incident as she had reportedly warned the children to stay away from the dogs.
Authorities have said that one of the dogs escaped after the attack but was later on captured and euthanized while the other dog is still in the custody of Lowell's animal control.
It has been learned that the Lowell City Council passed an ordinance in 2011 that limits its citizens to own only two pit bulls as pets. The said ordinance also specifies that pit bulls must be neutered or spayed, and muzzled or kept in a temporary enclosure.
Based on the records of the nonprofit organization DogsBite, pit bulls accounted for 22 of the 31 dog bite-related fatalities in America in 2016.
