Sony PlayStation VR Release News: GameStop CEO Hints Fall 2016 Release

Virtual reality (VR) technology is an exciting field, offering many opportunities for its use in different areas, and gaming is one area where VR seems promising. It is therefore natural for consumers to get excited about news on when VR headsets are going to be released into the market. There are three headsets currently being developed - the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive VR, and the Sony PlayStation VR.

Speaking to Fox Business, GameStop CEO Paul Raines recently hinted that their company will be launching the Sony PlayStation VR in the fall of 2016. GameStop, according to a Forbes report, has already sealed the deal with Sony for the VR headset and is currently in talks with the two other big VR players. His revelation about the headset's release date contradicts earlier reports that Sony is set to launch the VR headset by the first half of this year. Later on, GameStop came out with a statement that Sony has not yet announced an official release date for the headset.

The release of the PlayStation VR will be a big boost to Sony, especially since it is automatically compatible to the millions of PS4s out there - that is if the headset will be enticing enough to encourage PS4 owners to become early adopters. The Forbes report cited that Sony must consider its release date in relation to when its competitors are releasing their headsets. Given that the technology is new, it is likely that the headsets will be expensive, so early adopters will likely buy their first and only headset once any of the three brands are released.
