Squid Sisters Available in July as New 'Splatoon' Amiibo Figures

Nintendo players will have another pair of amiibo figures to add to their collection. The company announced on Saturday that the Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie, are the newest amiibo figures for Nintendo's third-person shooter game, "Splatoon."

The company announced the Squid Sisters will be available on July 8. They can be bought individually for $12.99 or together in a twin pack for $24.99. Unlike other amiibo figures, the duo will not grant access to new levels or become playable characters in "Splatoon." Callie and Marie, who are pop singers in the game, will instead unlock a number of new songs: "Ink Me Up," "Now or Never!," "City of Color," "Maritime Memory," "Calamari Inkantation," and "Tide Goes Out". These new songs will be showcased in accompanying dance videos or in-game performances. The new figures were shown off in a trailer (below) and are dressed in detailed and sparkling clothing.

Also coming in July are three other amiibo figures. These are new color variants of Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and Inkling Squid. Inkling Girl and Inkling Boy can be bought together. Otherwise, the trio can also be bought as a bundle or three-pack for $34.99. (All pricing information comes from Polygon.)

Amiibo are small collectible figures that connect with the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS to unlock new content and characters in games. The company started selling amiibo figures in 2014 and has since shipped 53.6 million of them, including 24.7 million last year.

"Splatoon," which released last year, is considered to be one of Nintendo's biggest hits. The company continues to support the game through regular updates and events.

"Splatoon" is available exclusively on the Nintendo Wii U. The game has been rumored to be ported to the Nintendo NX, though that's something that remains to be seen.
