'Super Mario Run' Gameplay News: Nintendo to Release Update With New Character and Game Mode
This week, Nintendo is set to release a major update to "Super Mario Run" that will bring a new character and new game modes.
"Super Mario Run" is Nintendo's first-ever venture into the mobile gaming world. It features all the basic gameplay mechanics that players know from the classic "Super Mario" game, but with the mobile version, it can be played with one hand since Mario is consistently running and will jump at one tap.
Since the game was released on the iOS and Android earlier this year, Nintendo has yet to expand it in terms of contents. But that will change this week as the company confirmed that a major update will arrive on Friday, Sept. 29, which will introduce "a new world, new mode, new playable character, and more!"
While the said update will not be available before Friday, the Super Mario Run page at the Apple App Store has already released the descriptions for the upcoming game features.
According to reports, there will be 10 mini stages included in the update that will be collectively called Remix 10. These short levels will be incorporated into the existing game worlds.
Remix 10 will continuously play even if the player is not able to complete the task at a given mini level. So, once Remix 10 is triggered, players should not expect to see a Game Over screen after each stage since they will just continue on to the next one.
The new 10 mini levels will be randomly played, which means players will get the chance to experience the different levels and challenge themselves to get the most points possible. Once the player has become very acquainted with the mini games, for their next goal, they could try to beat the score needed to acquire a perfect rating in all 10 stages.
Meanwhile, gaining enough medals and scores from all Remix 10 levels will entitle players to bonus items that can be used for their Mushroom Kingdom. It will also give them access to a stage where they will be tasked to save a new character to "Super Mario Run" – Princess Daisy.
After saving Princess Daisy, she will be added to the roster of playable characters and can be used on all game modes of "Super Mario Run."
Lastly, the update will introduce an all-new world called World Star that has nine new levels that "include pink, purple, and black coin-collecting challenges."
Once the update goes live, the game's paid full version ($9.99) will be discounted by as much as 50 percent until Thursday, Oct. 12.
