'Vampyr' News: Developer Dontnod Reveals Concept Art And Details
French game developer Dontnod recently shared concept art and game details of its upcoming action roleplaying game "Vampyr" and the game is turning out to be a dark and gritty take on the life of being a vampire in a city that is already plagued with disease. According to a report in Tech Times, the game's concept art is dark and depicts a plague-ridden London during the early 20th century. It also veers away from the usual glamorous depiction that vampires usually get in popular culture.
According to the developer's press release about the game, the player will play the role of a doctor, Jonathan Reid, who finds out that he is no longer human and is, in fact, a vampire. It reads: "Emerging from the chaos, a tormented figure awakes; as the player, it is you who determines how to harness your new powers, by specializing in deadly, versatile RPG skill-trees that change the way you play."
The press release also mentions the moral dilemma that will constantly plague the player during gameplay: "Your quest of intuition, discoveries and struggles, will be filled with death and drama, while your attempt to stem the irrepressible thirst that constantly drives you to take human lives."
The game is described as a choice-driven game, much like the other titles of Dontnod. Every choice that the player makes: who to befriend, who to ally with and who to feed on, will affect how the game will turn out. In another report in Polygon, game director Phillip Moreau wrote this about the game: "The information you gather, the things that you see, and the relationships [you] nurture will all define your decisions. But you will have to feed. You cannot escape that you are a vampire."
Players also need to battle enemies that are either humans or supernatural creatures, and they will do this using weapons and abilities that the player chooses, crafts and develops.
"Vampyr" is slated for a 2017 release for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
