Vido Loncar, Croatian Boxer, Brutally Beats Referee After Loss (VIDEO)

Loncar Banned From Boxing for Life

Vido Loncar, a Croatian boxer, brutally beat up a referee after losing his boxing match at the European Youth Boxing Championships in Zagreb, Croatia recently. The light-heavyweight boxer knocked the unidentified Polish referee Magej Dziurgot with one punch and continued to pummel him until someone outside the ring grabbed his ankles.

Vido Loncar was up against Algirdas Baniulis of Lithuania when the incident occurred. Though Loncar came out swinging, Baniulis still managed to give him solid punches. The referee stopped the Lithuanian boxer's assault to give Loncar a 10-count, then stopped the fight.

Right as Dziurgot was about to declare a winner, Loncar attacked him without gloves. The older man went down immediately, and Baniulis got clear of the altercation. Loncar managed to get in many hits to the man's face and arms before those outside the ring had a chance to react. Finally several security guards grabbed at the enraged boxer's ankles and dragged him out of the ring.

Incredibly, Loncar's coaches defended him.

"I believe he is not a butcher or as bad as this act makes him look," said Zeljko Mavrovic at the time. "This was part of his excessive ambition in that moment."

The referee was beaten so badly that he could not exit the ring. A chair was brought in so that Dziurgot had a chance to steady himself. Afterwards, a medic was called to examine the referee.

The Polish referee was later brought to local hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, Loncar has received a lifetime ban from the Croatian boxing federation. They apologized to the World Boxing Organization, the European Boxing Organization and the referee for Loncar's actions.

"This is the worst thing which could have happened, a big shame for Zagreb and Croatia," federation secretary Marko Marovic told HRT television. "All the efforts we have put into organization of this championship and boosting the image of Croatia's boxing was destroyed in a few seconds."
