'Wonder Woman' News, Spoilers: Wonder Woman In Solo Film Is 'Very Different'; Director Promises More Diverse Characters

While Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) was a refreshing and much-lauded presence in her first cinematic outing in the recently-released "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," the Wonder Woman fans will find in her first stand-alone film will reportedly be a "very different," less established character.

According to Gadot, who will star in the iconic superheroine's first live-action theatrical film, the Wonder Woman in the 2017 feature will be a long way from the self-assured, sophisticated Diana Prince/Wonder Woman viewers saw in "Dawn of Justice."

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the actress said that in the Zack Snyder-helmed superhero clash film, Wonder Woman is a "a woman who has been around" and who is "very experienced." Meanwhile, "Wonder Woman" will tell the story of how she grew up to be the wise and worldly superheroine of "Batman v Superman," which is set decades into the future.

"When she starts this journey, she's very pure," Gadot said. "She's more naive, she's this young idealist who does not really understand the complexities of life and the complexities of men."

The actress also acknowledged the importance of taking on a lead female character in a Hollywood dominated by male superheroes.

"I know how many people care for this character," she said in the interview. "This is such an iconic character. It's as big as it gets for a woman."

Meanwhile, "Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins has responded to the criticism on the lack of diversity among the film's cast. When new photos from the upcoming film hit the Internet last week, fans were quick to point out that all the characters in one photo showing Wonder Woman and her fellow warriors were all white.

The characters featured in the photo were Wonder Woman, her mother, Queen Hyppolyta (Connie Nielsen), and her two warrior aunts - General Antiope (Robin Wright) and her lieutenant, Menalippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli).

Jenkins acknowledged the criticism and said that the photo does not necessarily reflect the entire cast.

"Thanks all," the "Wonder Woman" director wrote in a Twitter post. "Excited to share! And no worries. Lots of great, diverse characters on Themyscira. This is Diana's direct family. More soon!!"

"Wonder Woman" is scheduled for release June 23, 2017. "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" is now in theaters.
