WWE News 2017: Leo Gao and Sawyer Fulton Released From Contract

Trainee Leo Gao was reportedly released from WWE NXT. The Chinese recruit's injuries over the summer may have been what urged the franchise to do so.

Pro Wrestling Sheet said in a report that Gao was released on Friday. Although the trainee never made it to NXT TV, he was among the favorites at the WWE Performance Center.

Shortly after Gao was released from NXT he sent out a tweet which read, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. So should be keep smile."

Gao acquired a neck injury sometime in August while he was training, a source told Pro Wrestling Sheet, which might have been the reason why he was let go. This is still uncertain. The trainer has been cleared for limited activity, and his injuries were never serious.

Although it is unclear if the trainee was released because of his injuries, it seems like Sawyer Fulton, a former member of SAnitY, was released for this reason.

Fulton also released from WWE on the same day as Gao. Fulton hopes to return to the company in the future.

"After my injury I worked as hard as possible to come back, and it just happened to not work out," Fulton said in a statement released on Twitter.

He continued, "However, I'm not ashamed of being released by any means, I held nothing back and at the end of the day I'm happy to leave with my head held high. I'm going to continue to work hard as possible and learn all I can in wrestling, nothing changes but the name. The last thing I said to Canyon and Coach Bloom was that I'm still young and I will be back in WWE and I fully intend to prove it."
