Speaking with The Daily Mail on Friday after Tyler Robinson's arrest, the 22-year-old shooting suspect's grandmother expressed disbelief at the possibility that her grandson could have murdered Charlie Kirk.

"He's a wonderful child," Debbie Robinson, 69, said about her grandchild. "There is no way that he could have done anything like that. I would cross my heart and promise that there was absolutely no way. He has never, ever gotten in trouble in his life. He's just a very shy, good kid."

The grandmother, who also lives in Washington, Utah, claimed that Robinson "never" discussed politics with her, describing her grandson as "the shyest person."

"Most of my family members are Republican. I don't know any single one who's a Democrat," the grandmother stated. "I'm just so confused."

Debbie Robinson also said that her son, the suspect's father, has not returned her calls following the announcement that her grandson is believed to have killed Kirk.

Other members of Robinson's community, including an unnamed family friend, described the suspect's family as "good, down-to-earth, nice people," NBC News reported last week.

"I'm stunned," another family friend said, according to the outlet. "These are really nice people."

As The New York Times reported on Saturday, a police officer wrote in an affidavit that Robinson had discussed Kirk's upcoming event at Utah Valley University with a family member, explaining why he disliked the conservative commentator.
