Angelic Rendition of 'Amazing Grace' Lifts Spirits After Earthquake Devastates New Zealand (VIDEO)

On February 22, 2011, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake devastated Christchurch, New Zealand, killing 185 people and causing an estimated NZ$40 billion in damage. Economists estimate the island country's economy will need 50 to 100 years to fully recover.

The New Zealand National Christchurch Memorial Service was held March 18 of that year to commemorate those lost in the quake. Up to 70,000 attended the event. Internationally renowned singer and local native Hayley Westenra sang "Amazing Grace" for the service, and her angelic performance lifted spirits then and continues to do so.
