Apple iPhone 6c News: Is Apple Continuing Its Budget Smartphone Line With A February 2016 Release?
It has been more than two years since Apple launched its latest budget smartphone, the iPhone 5c, in September 2013. Since then, the company's budget smartphone line has not received an update or a refresh. If reports are true, however, 2016 may bring the next generation of the line with the release of an iPhone 6c. According to a report in Tech Times, numerous rumors have been circulating about the release of an iPhone 6c in February 2016.
The report cites a Chinese publication called G4Games which claims that the iPhone 6c will be unveiled in January and will be released in the market one month after. The publication cites its sources as insiders from Foxconn, the Taiwanese company that is said to be one of Apple's manufacturers of its iPads and iPhones.
According to the report, the iPhone 6c will still retain the same screen size, which is 4 inches. It will, however, have an all-metal body this time, rather than the usual polycarbonate material that previous models were made of. It will also retain its colorful cases, which will be available in several colors.
The report also noted that the iPhone 6c will be costing around $400 to $500, which is a lower price point compared to the current generation iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. With a full metal body and a lower price, the phone is going to be missing some features that are found in the current flagships. This includes the 3D Touch feature.
Apple Pay, however, will likely be part of the package so fingerprint scanning through Touch ID will be on board.
The report also cited that Apple had inadvertently revealed plans for an iPhone 6c on its website, which started rumors about the upcoming phone.
A known technology analyst also predicted that the phone will be launched within the first half of 2016, giving credence to other rumors about an early 2016 release.
However, Apple has yet to confirm these reports.
