'Chicago Fire' Season 4 News: What Will Happen To Firefighter Herrmann After Stabbing?

The NBC television drama series "Chicago Fire" ended its mid-season with a shocking turn of events that has left one of Truck 81's own, Firefighter Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) brutally stabbed. After the finale, the series has entered its holiday break and will not be airing another new episode until January 5, 2016. The fate of one of the show's main characters will not be known until next year but more importantly, it will also be at the center of the three-part crossover event of "Chicago Fire," "Chicago Med" and "Chicago P.D." according to a report in CarterMatt.

"Chicago Fire's" January 5 episode will be swapping times with "Chicago Med," with "Chicago Fire" airing at a special time of 9:00 p.m., followed by the medical drama at 10:00 p.m. According to the report, the reason for this is so that the storytelling between the two series will be seamless, as Herrmann's stabbing will be picked by "Chicago Med" afterwards.

The official synopsis of the January 5 episode of "Chicago Fire" titled "The Beating Heart" has been released and it follows the events of the previous episode, with the firefighters waiting for word on the fate of Herrmann. The synopsis says that the members of Firehouse 51 are waiting for word at the hospital, Chicago Med, after Herrmann gets brutally stabbed. One of them, Cruz, who is played by Joe Minoso, will help Chicago P.D. find Freddie (Ralph Rodriguez) who has been missing. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Dr. Choi (Brian Tee guest stars) and Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss guest stars) are treating a patient who was brought in after an attempted suicide. The patient's condition, however, raises some red flags.

A photo for the upcoming episode gives viewers a hint that Herrmann will make it as he is shown lying in a hospital bed with his colleagues around him.

"The Beating Heart" episode will be the first part of the three-part crossover. According to CarterMatt, the storyline of the stabbing will continue until "Chicago Med" and this is confirmed by the medical drama's next episode's synopsis. According to the synopsis, the doctors who treated Herrmann encounter difficulties while attending to their patient. This caused some furor and tension among the other doctors who felt that Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) and Dr. Toni Zanetti (guest star Julie Berman) should have operated sooner.
