Cleveland Cavaliers Trade Rumors: Cavs Eyeing Primary or Backup Playmaker in Free Agency
After a disappointing finish during this year's NBA Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly weighing their options for the upcoming draft and free agency.
According to the report by ESPN, the Cavs may potentially shop the contract of Brendan Haywood, whose $10.5 million contract would not be guaranteed if he is waived by Aug. 2.
In addition, Cleveland may also use its 24th pick overall for the draft in order to trade for players whom they need io the team.
In the report, team manager David Griffin emphasized the team's lack of playmakers, especially when Kyrie Irving was sidelined for the rest of the championship series.
"The one thing that we did see in Golden State, and it was something that was very difficult for us to deal with, is they have an incredibly versatile team of multiple facilitating playmakers," Griffin said.
Moreover, Griffin said that it would be something that the team will "continue to work upon," which probably hints a trade involving a good playmaking point guard to play alongside Irving, or a backup guard who can make plays.
During this year's NBA Finals, it was evident that the Cavs did not have anyone who can facilitate the offense properly, aside from LeBron James. As a result of playing multiple positions, James managed to smash NBA Finals individual records.
But a single superstar is no match for an All-Star team that knows how to play together.
