'Coming to set you free': 4 things to know about the 'Trump Gaza' video
1. Trump's image evokes Nebuchadnezzar?
While the 45th and 47th U.S. president has been compared to many biblical figures, some have made the comparison to King Nebuchadnezzar for his ostentatious style and his looming influence over modern politics.
That comparison takes on new life in the Trump Gaza video, which depicts a massive golden effigy of Trump overlooking the reimagined resort city. The image of Trump's statue looming over a boulevard lined with skyscrapers and palm trees has drawn parallels to the biblical story of the golden calf from the book of Exodus. In this narrative, the Israelites, during Moses' absence, create and worship a golden calf, an act condemned as idolatry.
Others have pointed out that the Old Testament book of Daniel depicts the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar as a ruthless, power-hungry tyrant who demanded worship, built a golden idol, and burned alive those who refused: "Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon." (Daniel 3:1)
Interestingly, the Trump Gaza video also shows a boy holding a golden balloon in the shape of Trump's head, an image that some linked to the head of gold of Nebuchadnezzar, interpreted by man as a symbol for the Babylonian Empire as a golden age or time of prosperity.
