Destiny: The Taken King' News 2015: Not DLCs But More Event-Based Updates Coming

The news that shared world shooter game "Destiny: The Taken King" may not be receiving any more DLC updates anytime soon was received with mixed reactions among gamers and fans. In an interview with Eurogamer, Bungie's senior designer Derek Carroll said that instead of "monolithic DLC packs," the game will be receiving updates mainly through events like Halloween's "Festival of the Lost" and their winter event, Sparrow racing. This is the model that the game will be adapting, according to the report.

This means that unlike before, content updates for the game are not going to be mapped out as neatly as before. Carroll added, "I think by design the idea is to have these events which are surprises - so we can understand why players on the one hand want to have their lives mapped out for the next year." Caroll adds, "The way we're going is: you can expect new content from the live team in Destiny although we're not really telegraphing that. Certainly, players can expect new events and new content throughout the next year. We're taking it one step at a time."

His last statement is confirmed by another report in VG 24/7, where senior community manager Erik Osborne vaguely shared what players can expect in terms of new content. He mentioned that sometime in early 2016, players should expect an experience that "will be on a scale close to Festival of the Lost." He also talked about a second experience which he described as "far larger than anything seen since the release of The Taken King." During the same time window, a "significant update" to the world and sandbox is also being planned.

In addition to big events such as the "Festival of the Lost," Carroll also mentioned that weekly events like the Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris are also included in the content development plans for the game.

"Destiny: The Taken King" is an expansion of the game "Destiny" which was released in 2014. "Destiny: The Taken King" was released a year after. The game is currently holding a three-week event called "Sparrow Racing," which will run until December 29.
