'Fruit Ninja VR' News and Updates: Smartphone Version to Come in 2017? Other Details and Features Revealed

The hit video game "Fruit Ninja" has no doubt graced any mobile device at least once since its official release in 2010. However, the game will now be venturing into virtual reality, with the release of "Fruit Ninja VR."

Diving into Virtual Reality

There is no question that "Fruit Ninja" is currently one of the most recognizable video games since its release six year ago. With its appealing graphics, simple gameplay, and tons of possible moves, it is easy to get hooked to the game. However, game developer Halfbrick Studios wants the game to penetrate the virtual reality world.

Back in June, the game developer had announced that "Fruit Ninja VR" is happening. With over 250 million downloads across all platforms worldwide though, no one was actually surprised with the move. It was, in fact, just logical for Halfbrick Studios to adapt the game with the technological innovations.

Limited VR Platforms?

Plenty of rumors have pointed out that the smartphone version of "Fruit Ninja VR" will be released sometime in the first quarter of 2017. It is important to note that earlier reports have said that the game will be released in limited platforms, including Google Daydream VR, Oculus Rift, and PlayStation VR.

However, limiting the platforms of the "Fruit Ninja VR" would mean less profit for Halfbrick Studios. This is why the company was reportedly inspired by the success of "Pokemon Go" and had given orders for a "Fruit Ninja VR" smartphone version development.

"Fruit Ninja VR" Development

It is still unclear as to how "Fruit Ninja VR" will be similar or different as compared to the original "Fruit Ninja" game. However, the two will of course be sharing a common objective of slicing up different fruits and avoiding bombs to gain points. There has also been no news as of yet as to the actual content of the "Fruit Ninja VR."

Last 2011, the developers have released the "Fruit Ninja Kinect" for Xbox 360. There was also the "Fruit Ninja FX," which was an arcade game. An unfinished version of the "Fruit Ninja VR" was made available for HTC Vive. However, the game was plagued with glitches, and was not released to any other virtual reality platforms since then.

The development of "Fruit Ninja VR" is largely rooted in the success of its predecessor. Halfbrick Studios is banking on the fact that the original game had generated such a worldwide trend, which they are anticipating for the new game to pull off. Taking advantage of new technological innovations such as virtual reality is certainly a huge step for any game developer, so we are hoping for "Fruit Ninja VR" to be a success.
