'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Finale Recap, Spoilers: Is There Any Hope of Bringing Back Fan-Favorite Character?

The Internet is currently rife with dismay over the shocking events featured in the Season 5 finale on HBO's hit fantasy TV drama series "Game of Thrones."

Spoiler alert for those who haven't seen the episode, Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) was killed off by none other than his subordinates at Castle Black. Tricked by his page, Olly, the Commander of the Night's Watch hurried downstairs to inspect what he believed to be an information about his missing uncle, Benjen Stark.

What he saw is a cross with a sign saying "Traitor." Then and there, his brothers on the Wall stabbed him in turns.

Fans tried hard to ease the pain caused by his passing by speculating that he could still be alive, given the long camera shot of his eyes gazing upwards. George R.R. Martin's book, "A Dance With Dragons," to which the part of the TV storyline was based upon, ended with the same cliffhanger.

But everyone was apparently devastated when during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Harrington confirms that his character is "dead" and is "not coming back next season." Is he really gone for good?

Erik Kain from Forbes.com believes that "Jon Snow is the song of ice and fire" and is actually the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. Ned Stark (Sean Bean) only assumes the fatherhood in order to protect Jon.

Other theories also stipulated that the fact Melisandre (Carice van Houten) abandons Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) in the battlefield suggests that the Red Priestess believes Jon is the real Azor Ahai, the legendary hero who could stop the forces of the undead.

Needless to say, she may be there to finally anoint Jon of his true calling but instead found him being left for dead (or really dead, whichever the case). She can, of course, bring him back to life just like what Thoros of Myr did with Beric Dondarrion in the previous seasons.

All of these are purely theoretical and remains to be confirmed when either Martin's next book, "The Winds of Winter" is released or HBO's Season 6 of the show returns in 2016.
