'Grey's Anatomy' News, Cast, Spoilers: Denzel Washington to Take the Director's Seat in One Episode

It seems that it's becoming a trend for big screen stars to go into the television business. More and more big names are venturing out into the small screen such as Halle Berry in "Extant," Morgan Freeman in "Madame Secretary," and now Denzel Washington for "Grey's Anatomy." However, unlike Berry and Freeman, Washington simply chooses to stay behind the camera, as he is set to direct one of the episodes for the long-time running medical drama "'Grey's Anatomy."

According to TVLine, Washington is expected to take the reigns for the ninth episode. This might be a big undertaking especially since the show is going to air in November, when most of the drama in television happens. Washington will have to step up to the plate and serve an episode that should have a twist that is going to be remembered. The episode is penned by Stacy McKee, head writer of the "Grey's Anatomy," so it is expected that the tone won't be entirely different, it will just be up to Washington's execution. The episode's filiming is expected to occur later this month.

Washington is a two-time Oscar Winner and has directed two films in the past, "Antwone Fisher" (2002) and "The Great Debaters" (2007). E! Online reports that despite having directorial experience, this will be his first take on television show. He is also long-time friends with executive producer/director Debbie Allen, who now plays Dr. Catherine Avery on the show, so Washington will definitely have the guidance if he needs it.

Characters are currently still settling in Grey-Sloan memorial hospital after the shocking death of Derek Shepherd. Others have stepped up on to the spotlight for the time being, while simultaneously exploring Meredith's life after Derek. This gives Washington enough time for a successful break as when episode nine airs, fans will be quite invested into the current story line and have reeled in from the fact that McDreamy is no longer around.

"Grey's Anatomy" airs on ABC every Thursdays at 8 p.m.
