iPocketBible Enables Reading, Listening to Bible on iPod
IPods, the near ubiquitous pastel colored music players that have sold over 15 million units since its introduction in October 2001, can now be used to deliver the Word in both visual and audio formats.
Laridian, a leading publisher of Bible-related software for mobile devices, announced last week that it was releasing the iPocketBible New Living Translation Edition for use with the iPod MP3 players. The iPocketBible is unique from previously published iPod bible software because it simultaneously provides the text and dramatized audio of the entire NLT bible for reading and listening.
The iPocketBible utilizes the “notes” feature of the iPod to present the Bible text for reading. A verse and subject index is provided so users can quickly jump from book to book and chapter to chapter. While the user is reading, he can also click on the “listen” link, which will provide the audio via the unit’s headphones.

The New Living Translation is an easy to understand translation of the bible, published in 1996 by Tyndale House Publishers. The version is less literal than other translations, focusing more on accurately translating the idea of bible passages.
The iPocketbible software provides 73 hours of MP3 audio and includes original music and sound effects. The narration is provided by Mike Kellogg, national radio host of moody Broadcasting’s “Music Thru the Night.”
