Seattle Woman Marries Building in Bizarre 'Gay Wedding' Ceremony

A Seattle woman "marries" a building in a bizarre attempt to save a 107-year-old warehouse from being torn down.

Babylonia Aivaz of Seattle told the public to attend her "gay wedding" where she would "marry" the building on Sunday. The nuptials were an attempt to save the building and turn it into a community center.

It is unclear why she referred to it as a "gay wedding," but the woman hyped up the ceremony on social networks as a ploy to save the structure.

"Yes, I'm in love with a 107 year old building! Yes, ITS A GAY MARRIAGE! How is that possible? Well there must obviously be a deeper story," Aivaz wrote on her Facebook invitation to the wedding.

The warehouse is slated to be torn down and turned into a mixed-use complex with apartments in the building.

The latest stunt is not Aivaz's first with the building. In December, she held a protest with more than a dozen other activists. The crew linked their arms and surrounded the building.

The last protest did not effect change in the plans for the run-down building.

It is unclear if the "gay wedding" will help further Aivaz's goals.

Aivaz's protest also took aim at campaign finance laws, which allow corporations to be recognized as people.

"If corporations can have the rights as people, so can buildings," Aivaz told KOMO. "I'm doing this to show the building how much I love it, how much I love community space and how much I love this neighborhood. And I want to stop it from gentrification."

Although the "gay wedding" presumably took place, it is unknown how many guests- if any- support her cause.

Demolition has already begun on the old and dilapidated building, but Aivaz has been at the site in her wedding dress protesting the right for the building to remain.
