What Does 'God Is Not Mocked' Mean?
One of the Biblical passages that require explanation is Galatians 6:7, which says, "Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap." To be able to discuss this in detail would require an explanation of the meaning of the word "mock."
To mock is to treat others with contempt or sneer at. It is the act of looking down with disdain and insult at someone who is lowly regarded of as little or insignificant. It is the lowest form of treatment to another being. God expressed his antipathy towards mockers in many instances.
God's prophets and messengers in both the Old and New Testaments have been mocked (2 Chronicles 36:16). Jesus Himself was mocked by Herod (Luke 23:11), the Roman soldiers (Luke 23:36, Mark 15:20), the thief beside him on the cross (Luke 23:39) and the Jewish leaders (Matthew 27:41).
If God hates those who mock their fellowmen, we can just imagine the wrath that awaits those who mock Him. And He is continually being mocked up to this day. God is ridiculed in literature and media like movies, TV programs and talk shows. Christianity is being treated as a joke.
God is also mocked in the scientific field where doubt is constantly being cast on His existence despite evidence presented by creationists to the contrary. The Realism Movement has substituted God with aliens as the source of life on earth despite having only theories to support its unsubstantiated claims.
Members of the LGBTQ community have brazenly attacked God's Word and have declared war against Christianity. This was demonstrated by gay actor Ian McKellen's admission that he is ripping pages off the Bible, something "Beauty and the Beast" director Bill Condon wanted to follow.
The Bible says they will not prevail, and that is exactly what "God is not mocked means." Those who are against Him think they're getting away with their mockery. The Word of God says, "In the last days, mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts (2 Peter 3:3)."
