'Wonder Woman 2' Rumors: Chris Pine to Return as Descendant of Steve Trevor

While Chris Pine's Steve Trevor character died in "Wonder Woman," rumors claim that he is returning to the sequel, which is said to begin filming in summer next year.

One of the heart-wrenching moments featured in "Wonder Woman" was the scene involving Steve Trevor sacrificing himself as he flew off with the deadly gas to avert it from wiping off London. Upon seeing Steve Trevor's plane explode in the sky, Diana/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) couldn't help but scream and cry only as she had also been restricted by Ares (David Thewlis) in their battle at that moment.

However, rumors claim that, despite his character's death, Pine is returning to the highly anticipated sequel of "Wonder Woman." While it remains unclear whether it will really be the case, there are already some speculations on how his character will be woven into the story.

It is suspected, though, that the likeliest way for Steve Trevor to be featured in "Wonder Woman 2" will be through flashbacks, with Diana reminiscing her past with the man she loved. However, some opine that it is also possible for Pine to be featured as a descendant of the original Steve Trevor, just like in the "Wonder Woman" TV series top-billed by Lynda Carter, where Lyle Waggoner returned as Steve Trevor Jr after the series featured a time jump spanning more than 30 years as the show's period setting shifted from World War 2 to the 1970s.

As reports claim that "Wonder Woman 2" will be set in the 1980s, with Diana taking on the Soviet Union during the Cold War, it is, indeed, impossible for Pine to return as the original Steve Trevor even if he unconvincingly survived the explosion of the plane in the first movie, which had a period setting of World War 1. Hence, fans can only wonder how Pine's character will be brought back into the world of Wonder Woman in the event that rumors about the actor's return to the sequel are true.

Apart from the rumors of Pine's return, it is also alleged that "Wonder Woman 2" will begin filming in June 2018. However, as already announced, the movie is not expected to arrive earlier than December 2019, which means fans will have to wait for two more years before they can find out what Pine's character in the story will be if he is really part of the sequel.
