2016 Presidential Polls Update: New Poll Sees Cruz Leading Trump Ahead of Wisconsin Primary

The stakes are getting higher for Donald Trump as a new poll reveals that he is trailing Ted Cruz by 5 points, giving him a rockier path towards the Republican nominations in case the senator does emerge victorious in Wisconsin on Tuesday.

According to The New York Daily News, an Emerson College Polling Society survey released on Monday sees Trump behind the Texas senator at 35 percent compared to the latter's 40 percent.

The outlet explains that the businessman will be in a tight spot if ever Cruz wins Wisconsin as he will lose 42 delegates that he badly needs to come up with the required number in order to win the Republican presidential nomination.

In total, Trump has a wide lead with 736 delegates compared to Cruz's 463. However, Wisconsin is a huge has the numbers Trump still needs and despite his wide lead in general, his chances of a clearer path towards the nomination will be more shady if Cruz wins the state.

Just one day earlier, a CBS Poll saw Trump trailing behind Cruz by six points at 37-43. The poll centered in Wisconsin and though the state is still prepping for its primary, likely GOP voters seem to trust Cruz more.

Meanwhile, the Democrats of the Badger State seem to have more time to spare for Bernie Sanders as the most recent poll says he is leading Hillary Clinton by eight points. Compared to the former First Lady's 43 percent, Sanders can claim the upcoming primary's victory with his 51 percent.

The Vermont senator has boosted his campaign over the past few weeks, winning the last six Democratic contests, and it seems there's no stopping him in giving Clinton a race she will never forget.

On the other hand, the former Secretary of State is still in the lead with 1,712 delegates compared to Sanders' 1,011. The Democratic frontrunner needs a total of 2,383 to win the Democratic nomination.

New York is up next for both the Republican and Democratic parties. The state will hold its contests on April 19, 2016.
