Android Users Clock In Nearly 325 Billion Hours in Apps in Q3 of 2017

It seems people cannot get enough of their apps nowadays.

Android apps usage has grown to all-time record levels according to the latest report from apps analytics company, App Annie. Based on its latest Market Index Report, the firm said that users spent close to 325 billion hours on their Android apps, just for the third quarter of 2017.

The figure reflects a 40 percent annual growth, and Android is likely to maintain its pace for the final quarter of the year, AndroidHeadlines reported. Moreover, the App Annie report also predicted that the Google Play Store and the iOS Apple Store will likely draw close to 240 billion combined downloads by the year 2021.

Meanwhile, AndroidAuthority noted that the remarkable spike in app download and usage can be attested to the Indian and Southeast Asian markets that are currently riding the popularity of the apps.

As for consumer spending, the company pegged around $100 billion worth of spending on mobile apps annually, by 2021. In the third quarter of 2017, close to $17 billion in-app purchases were registered, mirroring a 28 percent year-on-year growth. Though the Google Play Store had more downloads compared to that of Apple's, the latter still emerged as winners in the category with iOS users spending close to double of what Android users shelled out.

The App Annie report also stated that of the 26 billion apps that were downloaded for the quarter between Android and iOS users, the numbers only accounted for new downloads, disregarding all re-installments and updates.

In other apps-related news, music and video streaming giant Spotify released a new gimmick in time for the return of Netflix's hit series "Stranger Things." The Verge reported that Spotify came up with an Easter egg that transforms the app's trademark green and black web player into The Upside Down.

Users just need to open their app from their desktop or mobile device and play any track from the "Stranger Things" selection. In a matter of seconds, the screen will turn into The Upside Down complete with floating spores and a flashlight beam.
