'Log Horizon' Season 3 Updates: Anime's Return Still Up in the Air
While many are excitedly waiting for the arrival of "Log Horizon" season 3, it remains unclear when it will be released or whether there will be one, indeed.
It was in 2013 when the first season of "Log Horizon" was released, which was followed by its season 2 in 2015. As there was a two-year gap between its first and sophomore seasons, many expected that its third season would arrive after two years as well. Unfortunately, while it has already been two years since "Log Horizon" season 2 was released, there is still no news on when its third season will arrive.
According to reports, there is still no official word from the anime series' producer, NHK, on the status of the highly anticipated season 3. While there are rumors claiming that "Log Horizon" season 3 has already been canceled as, allegedly, its creator, Mamare Touno has been imprisoned in Japan for a tax evasion case, it is said that the primary culprit for the delay of the anime's next season is scheduling. Reportedly, many anime studios in Japan are already booked for various anime series projects until 2020.
However, some fans can't help but suspect that the third season of "Log Horizon" may have already been canceled, indeed, as the Blu-Ray of the first two seasons of the anime series delivered a lukewarm performance in terms of sales. While the first season averaged 4,026, its second season reportedly averaged 2,438 only.
As it is said that an anime series needs to average 3,000 in its Blue-Ray sales before it can be renewed for another season, some believe that it is unlikely for "Log Horizon" to return for another season. However, some opine that the drop in the Blu-Ray sales of the anime series can be attributed to the presence of Netflix, where fans can repeatedly watch their favorite episodes of the anime even without a Blue-Ray copy.
Is "Log Horizon" season 3 in the works? Has it been canceled despite its popularity in Japan and Northern America? Fans can only speculate for now.
