Netflix to Debut 'Star Trek' Series This Year; Cast; Release Date, What We Know So Far

"Star Trek Beyond" is about to hit the big screen this July 22, 2016. This is the third franchise of the movie, and while viewers are anticipating for this film to be released, it has been reported that Netflix will debut the Star Trek series.

What We Know About The Series

The first episode of the "Star Trek" Series will be aired on the regular CBS network in January 2017. All episodes after the premiere will be aired through CBS All Access. Fortunately, Netflix announced that all episodes of the series will be available globally 24 hours after the US premiere. This means that viewers who do not have a CBS All Access subscription will still be able to watch the series.

Additionally, by the end of 2016, all the existing Star Trek episodes will be available on Netflix. The episodes will be for all 727 from "Star Trek: The Original Series," "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Star Trek: Enterprise."

"Star Trek" series can be aired 6 months after "Star Trek Beyond" will be released. This is the reason why the set date is for the month of January 2017.

New Cast of Characters

"Star Trek" series will introduce new crews, new villains, new heroes and new worlds. Everyone involved in the production will be all new. Thus, the series will not be connected in any way to the upcoming movie "Star Trek Beyond."

Furthermore, there are reports that the series will be set directly before "The Next Generation" on Star Trek's timeline. The show is also reported to be an interesting break from the norm since it will not be set in the Enterprise ship. This would only mean that the Star Trek series is on a totally new and different set up.

As of this time, there is not much information yet of the new production that are involved in the series. However, the new installment will consist of 13 episodes and will begin production by September 2016.

The original series will also be involving a veteran Star Trek character. Nicholas Meyer will be joining the team and this time as a consulting producer /writer. Also part of the production is Bryan Fuller who serves as the showrunner and co-creator of the show. Joining Fuller and Meyer will be Alex Kurtzman and Eugene Roddenbury who are the executive producers of the series.
