'Stranger Things' Season 2 Plot Review, News: Duffer Brothers Defend Controversial Episode

The highly anticipated "Stranger Things" season 2 landed on Netflix last week, and it did not disappoint the fans.

Gaining positive reviews from viewers and critics, the series is still a huge hit and has even become the most talked about streaming series on Twitter. However, there was one particular episode that caused debate on whether or not it was an important part of the season, on what role it played in the season's plot.

Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators and producers of the show, defended the controversial episode, saying that it was crucial to Eleven's (Millie Bobbie Brown) personal story, and not just a filler.

"That Eleven story line overall is sort of the biggest risk we took," Ross admitted in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "We're going to continue to do risks moving forward to keep us on our toes. I didn't want her to just magically save the day. Just like Luke Skywalker, she needed to go off on her own and learn something about herself," he added.

He also said that the season 2 ending would not work out without showing that particular moment of Eleven's life, her discovery of herself. Matt, on the other hand, knew that the episode would spark debate, but revealed that they keep experimenting on the series instead of just doing the same things over and over.

In other news, the Duffer brothers teased that fans will have more episodes to look forward to.

In a recent interview with Deadline, the show creators talked about the process of structuring and writing each season of "Stranger Things" in order to make sure all the storylines remain consistent, and confirmed that they have already started writing the third season of the Netflix original series.

"The hardest thing with this story is that we were tracking these multiple storylines and having them sort of build about at the same pace as to crescendo at the same time," Ross revealed, admitting that this is always the hardest part of writing a series.

"Like we're starting on season 3 now, it's always the most difficult thing just to get those to build simultaneously," he added. "It's always a challenge, and so we're still learning," Ross went on to say.

"Stranger Things" season 2 is now available for streaming on Netflix, along with a post-season special titled "Beyond Stranger Things" where the creators, director, and actors discuss the process of making the series.
