'Super Mario Odyssey' Becomes Fastest-Selling 'Super Mario' Game Ever in Europe

The recently released "Super Mario Odyssey" video game became a huge success, gaining a plethora of positive reviews from gamers and critics, and earning millions of sales during its first week.

In fact, electronics and video game company Nintendo announced this week that the game has just become the fastest-selling "Super Mario" game ever, not only in the United States but also across Europe, exceeding two million sales during the first three days of its worldwide release.

"Super Mario Odyssey" was internationally launched for the Nintendo Switch on Oct. 27.

The U.S. market accounts for 1.1 million units alone, according to GameSpot, reportedly overtaking the launch sales of 2009's "New Super Mario Bros. Wii," when the Wii console was at the peak of its popularity.

In Europe, on the other hand, Nintendo claims that it is both the fastest-selling "Super Mario" title and Nintendo Switch game in the region. No specific sales figures were revealed, but it is said to have surpassed the launch weekend sales of 2010's "Super Mario Galaxy 2."

Nintendo of America took to their official Twitter page to share the good news. In a tweet, they wrote: "Thank you to everyone for taking this amazing journey with us and making #SuperMarioOdyssey the fastest selling game in Super Mario history!"

The video game company also revealed that 2.6 million Nintendo Switch units have been sold in the U.S. as of Oct. 31.

"The public continues to respond positively to Mario's latest adventure," Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's President and COO, said in a statement, according to BusinessWire. "We're also seeing sales momentum for Nintendo Switch thanks to an ever-growing catalog of games from large publishers and indie developers," he added.

Because of the high demand for the console, especially in the coming holidays, Nintendo has reportedly increased the supplies for the Nintendo Switch.
