1. Which countries are on the list?
The State Department published a complete list of countries affected by the visa freeze starting on Jan. 21 on its website. The nations included on the list come from a variety of regions throughout the world.
In addition to Russia and the island nation of Fiji, the Middle Eastern countries of Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Pakistan, Syria and Yemen, as well as the Latin American countries of Belize, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Uruguay are included in the visa freeze.
Many island nations in the Western Hemisphere also made the list: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Several African nations are on the list as well: Algeria, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Cote D’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Morocco, Nigeria, the Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia and Uganda.
The Eastern European countries of Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro and North Macedonia are also affected by the visa freeze.
Many Asian countries outside the Middle East are also impacted by the visa freeze: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Laos, Mongolia, Nepal, Thailand and Uzbekistan.
