5. Pastor Matt Schultz of Alaska

A Presbyterian Church (USA) pastor who ran for Alaska's sole U.S. House seat against Republican Rep. Nick Begich, Schultz suspended his campaign in July.

Known as the “Barefoot Guy” for spending an entire semester in college barefoot, Schultz’s campaign supported, among other things, LGBT ideology and immigration reform, along with advocacy for increased social safety programs like Medicare.

Upon ending his campaign, Schultz, who pastors Anchorage’s First Presbyterian Church, wrote, “Thank you to everyone who opened their home for a house party, made calls, knocked on doors, gave what they could, offered their endorsement, shared our message, offered advice, or supported this effort in ways large and small. This campaign was built by people who believe politics can still be rooted in service, integrity, and care for our neighbors. I will never forget the trust you placed in me or the stories you shared along the way.”
