Central Baptist Theological Seminary Announces New Appointments

Central Baptist Theological Seminary (CBTS) based in Kansas City, Kansas has recently announced two new appointments - one for the joint positions of dean and vice president for administration and one for vice president for finance and operations.

The first position will be filled by Dean Allen and Lisa Allen, who are married and co-ministering Weston Baptist Church in Weston, Mass. Dean Allen has served as the dean of the faculty and vice president for academic administration at Andover Newton Theological School, Newton Centre, Mass., according to Associated Baptist Press.

Both have received M.A. degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky. and Ph. D. degrees from Boston University and are successors to Molly Marshall, the new CBTS president from November.

George Townsend will take the post of vice president for finance and operations. Townsend served as the seminary's vice president for business administration from 1995-1997. He has worked for many non-profit organizations in Kansas City, acting as interim executive and an adjunct professor in the business department of Avila University, Kansas City, Mo.

Townsend will be taking over some of Connie McNeill's roles. The former chief operating officer is to assume a similar position at the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship in Atlanta, which has developed a relationship with the seminary as its financial supporter.

Marshall spoke of the great contributions that the Allens will bring to the seminary with the history that goes back to 1901.

"I am so pleased that Dean and Lisa would embark on this journey with Central Seminary at this propitious time," said Marshall. "They bring wonderful gifts, energy, imagination and a deep vocational commitment to theological education."

Marshall also praised Townsend for his "rich background" in business and management."

"I asked George to join the cabinet because I believe he has the expertise and vision to do what is needed at Central at this promising time," she said.
