Terry Glover, Editor at Ebony Magazine, Dies of Colon Cancer on Christmas Eve

Terry Glover, the managing editor of Ebony magazine has died at the age of 57, her family has confirmed. She suffered from colon cancer and passed away on Christmas Eve in her home in Chicago.

"Her passing during the holidays wasn't any easier than normal, but it was nice to have many of her close friends as support," husband Kendall Glover told the Chicago Tribune. "Myself and the kids will keep most things the same during the holidays, but will also start new traditions. We won't have the same company."

Glover lived an incredibly full life that saw her earn a master's degree in journalism from Roosevelt University, travel to Paris, London, and Amsterdam and be the managing editor for popular magazines including Savoy, Uptown, and finally, Ebony.

She took the role of managing editor of Eboy in 2009 and is remembered as the "heart and soul" of the magazine, according to her colleagues.

"She was really about moving the black community forward on all levels – especially an artistic level. She was dedicated to the arts, and her work has had such a profound influence," friend and colleague Barbara E. Allen told the Tribune. "She was brilliant and hysterical; she could make the most ridiculous situations funny."

Glover was diagnosed with colon cancer, a fast-acting disease, in 2010. Friends and family were especially supportive during that time, but Glover never let it stop her from working or taking care of her family. Friends paid tribute to her on the Ebony website and the magazine is planning a special tribute to Glover sometime next month.

"Terry is completely irreplaceable. We will find someone to fill in her editorial functions, but in terms of the glue she was for our team, that's not replaceable. We really feel her absence every single day. All of us at Ebony loved her," Amy DuBois Barnett, editor-in-chief of Ebony, told the Tribune.

Fans of Ebony and Glover have poured out their tributes on Facebook and Twitter.

"Oh wow… God bless her!" tweeted Soulfull.

"Our deepest sympathies to the friends/fam of @EBONYMag Managing Editor Terry Glover, who lost her brave battle with colon cancer," added TCW Magazine.
