Trump-Musk backed candidate loses, voter ID wins: 5 highlights from Wis., Fla. election results
2. Progressive candidate wins Wisconsin superintendent of public instruction race
Much like the race to elect Wisconsin's newest Supreme Court justice, the candidates seeking to serve as Wisconsin’s superintendent of public instruction ran on officially nonpartisan labels. Unofficial results from Decision Desk HQ show Jill Underly winning 52.9% of the vote against her challenger, Brittany Kinser, who captured 47.1% of the vote.
In another similarity with the Wisconsin Supreme Court justice contest, the race for Wisconsin Superintendent of Public Instruction saw interest groups on both sides of the aisle flocking to one particular candidate over the other. Kinser had the support of the Wisconsin Republican Party, which lauded her as “the common-sense candidate for State Superintendent” in a statement published after she advanced to the general election.
Meanwhile, Underly had the backing of the Wisconsin Democratic Party. In a statement endorsing Underly’s reelection bid, the Wisconsin Democratic Party cheered Underly for “standing up to attacks on public education, libraries and LGBTQ+ youth, and ensuring that partisan attempts to divide Wisconsin do not undermine our state’s fundamental and uniting commitment to great public schools, available to all.”
