Minnesota Twins MLB 2015 News, Rumors: Team Sets Rules for Electronics Usage in Their Clubhouse

Go into a local watering hole, where people use to go to watch sports to be with fellow sports fans and what will likely be seen is a bunch of people faking be social. What they are likely doing to burying their face in their phone or other electronic device under the delusion that being out in public means they are socializing. The coaching staff of the Minnesota Twins noticed this problem in their own clubhouse, and they are doing something about it.

New Twins Manager Paul Molitor has set rules for his clubhouse in regards to electronic devices, The St. Paul Pioneer Pres reported. In an address to all the players in Twins big league camp Molitor laid down the new rules. No electronic use in the clubhouse 30 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. The electronic ban lasts through the final out of the game.

The new rules were inspired by Bullpen Manager Eddie Guardado, who observed his players a year ago buried in their devices and not engaging with their teammates. Beyond getting into playing shape for the coming season Spring Training is a chance for players to bond with one another. This is an essential part of the process for a team and rosters must forge a strong bond to survive the grind that is a 162 game season.

Pitcher Tommy Malone, who is new to the Minnesota clubhouse, is in favor of the rule.

"Now if there's a rule in place where you can't do that anymore, it forces you to focus on other things. Maybe not just talking with your teammates, but it probably forces you to get out there and get some work done, maybe a little bit of extra work to do something other than be on your phone," he said.
